I have already mentioned that you can use eBook online retailers to check if your particular subject matter appears to be popular.
Another check is to go to Google and do a search for that subject. Use phrases such as âhow to...â for specific areas of that niche.
Many online marketers use and pay for Google AdWords to promote and build their information business. Therefore if you see adverts appear then it is highly likely that this subject is profitable!
So go through your list of skills, knowledge and experience and next to each one decide if they fit the above criteria.
If any donât, then reject those particular subjects. I know that sounds harsh but the reality is that you need to be in profit at the end of the day and the best chance you have of achieving success is by being careful about the topic you choose. That is half the battle!
Now look at the few ideas that you are left with.
Which one really appeals to you?
Which one are you really passionate about?
Which one would you love to help others achieve in?
Which one will you find most fulfilling?
You see, I firmly believe that unless you have a real passion in the niche you choose, it doesnât matter how much of an expert you are â you will find it far more difficult to engage and enthuse others.
This is important with an online business. Since the internet is a virtual place it is harder to build rapport with your prospects.
Therefore if you arenât naturally enthusiastic about your subject you might be tempted to exaggerate the appeal and this often leads to the dreaded hype.
Iâm sure you have come across it yourself. It is extremely off putting and certainly does not come across as sincere.
So I highly recommend that you choose your particular area of expertise in one that you will enjoy working in.
Side Note
I feel that it is important to add this. There may be someone reading this book thinking that there is something that they feel passionate about and it is in a popular niche but they donât know enough about it.
If this is you then donât panic. You can still use this niche to build a successful information business.
How?
Initially you can interview other experts and learn from them. You will then have a quality product to sell plus you will be adding to your own knowledge in the process.
This is in fact what many people do. However, to become a true expert you will need to gain that knowledge yourself so that others can go to you for help.
So decide right now that you will do what it takes to become an expert yourself!
Take ownership of that expertise!
